I watched Neuralink's update about Terry and the VOICE trial today. He trained a brain-to-voice interface by first miming speech, then by thinking the words and hearing them come out in his own natural voice.

Terry uses thought to speak in his own voice

Neuralink's VOICE trial is using Terry's implant to develop a brain-to-voice interface for people who cannot speak.

Honestly, his happiness is the best part of the video. You can hear how much it means to him. The engineering is brilliant, but hearing Terry enjoy his own voice is what made the whole thing land for me.

I believe AI can accelerate mankind enormously, but the direction matters. This is the direction I mean. A person thinks a sentence and gets to say it in a voice that sounds like his. That is more exciting to me than another benchmark going up.

This is the future I want to see. More of this, please.
